Experiences about the control of Rice diseases

In the rice seedling period, there are actually no obvious diseases. In the early stage, we can prevent Damping-off and Virus diseaseit by applying Metalaxyl 0.5%+Hymexazol 2.5% SL with + Oligosaccharins 2% SL to prevent disease, enhance crops’ resistance to the stress and promote root’s development. In order to prevent the late stage’s diseases, some protective fungicides can be selected, such as Mancozeb, Propineb, etc. because they have good protection function. Rice belongs to zinc-deficient crops and such products can promote roots’ development with economic cost.

In the tillering stage, Sheath blight should be controlled nationwide. Rice blast is not common in this stage. However, both of them should be controlled in advance. For Sheath blight, we suggest Azoxystrobin 15%+Hexaconazole 10% SC because it’s highly cost-effective. From the product view, the mainstream products are Hexaconazole and Thiazolamide, but at this stage the rice’s vegetative growth needs to be controlled, but Thiazolamide doesn’t have this function. Azoxystrobin is a good protective and wide-spectrum fungicide. It also has certain efficiency for the prevention of Rice blast. Adding this ingredient, Rice can be well protected from root to leaf and the key disease-Sheath blight is also provented well. In traditional Rice blast area, we can add Tricyclazole to lift the efficiency.

RIce jointing-booting stage is the outbreak period of major diseases. Most areas are mainly Sheath blight, and this disease is more serious at this stage under conditions of high temperature and high humidity. At this stage, the selection of the fungicides should focus on both lasting period and quick-action. It is recommended to use Jinggangmycin A 13%+Thifluzamide 3% SC. This recipe can offer good lasting period, also quick action for the controlling of Sheath blight. Most people observe the sheath blight in the ridge and then think there’s no Sheath blight if they see nothing around the field. In fact, because the ventilation around the ridge is better, it is not easy to cause disease around the ridge. But in the middle of the field, the disease will be more serious if the density is higher.

The occurrence of Rice blast in this period is still relatively mild. If it is serious, then it’s because of the worse control of the Rice blast in the previous seedling period. If there is Leaf blast, you must pay a big price to deal with it because if Leaf blast can not be controlled well, the Neck blast will be also difficult to be controlled. The mainstream fungicides for Rice blast are Tricyclazole, Isoprothiolane, Prochloraz, and Kasugamycin. There is a suggestion for the selection in this year’s products. Because Tricyclazole and Prochloraz’s prices rose too much this year, we can choose Isoprothiolane 39%+Kasugamycin 3% WP. Though their prices also rose comparing with before, but the difference is not too much comparing with other 2 ingredients. 

From 1 week before heading stage to full heading stage, the diseases’ occurrence is very concentrated. In this stage, there maybe 15-20 days max. with good weather. According to the principle of scientific prevention&control, we need to apply 3 times: Prevent False smut in 5-7 days before heading stage and Sheath blight, prevent Neck blast in the heading stage and consolidate again in the full-heading stage. For the control of False smut, the best product is Epoxiconazole because Terbuconazole will affect rice’s heading though it also has good efficiency.  

This stage is the most concentrated stage of disease occurrence in the week before the rice breaks. It may be 15 days to 20 days in the case of good weather. It may take three times to use the medicine according to scientific medicine. 5-7 days before the mouth, focus on the prevention and control of rice false smut, sheath blight, break the key to control the panicle neck scorpion, and consolidate the heading stage, but many farmers can not do so many times, this stage is also the most rice In the important stage, if you want to save trouble and have better control effect, you need to carefully select it on the medicinal agent. In the prevention and treatment of rice smut disease, the product with the best performance is the fluorocyclazole, but tebuconazole is also good. There is a certain influence on the inhibition of rice heading, and the effect is indeed worse than that of epoxiconazole.
For the control of Neck blast, we suggest products with prevention and cure. Because there maybe still residue of Rice blast’s pathogen, so you had better to apply Tricyclazole 30%+Azoxystrobin 10% SC to strengthen the prevention effect. If you apply during the full heading stage, pls avoid to apply from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm and should choose the products that have few affection on rice’s flowering. For example, not use EC. We suggest: In 5 days before heading stage, apply Isoprothiolane 36%+Epoxiconazole 4% SC, and apply Pyraclostrobin 25% SC in the full heading period. If your area cann’t use Pyraclostrobin in Rice, can replace by Propiconazole 15%+Difenoconazole 15% SC with Kasugamycin 2% SL. It has good effect on the later leaf protection, yield improving and disease prevention.
